Interview with Eric “Halvo” Halvorsen from A ROCKET TO THE MOON

Formed by Massachusetts-native, Nick Santino (vocals/guitar), A Rocket to the Moon has proven to fans that the word “predictable” is not in their vocabulary. From crashing weddings to having songs range from pop to country, Nick, Eric (bass), Justin (guitar), and Andrew (drums) show that they have a lot of offer to their fans. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to Eric “Halvo” Halvorsen about tour life, their CD “On Your Side”, and high school life.

- How was A Rocket to the Moon formed?

The band was formed by Nick. He started it in 2007, I think, and it was just him playing acoustic guitar, making beats and whatnot on his computer and then in spring of 2008, our old manager, Tim, was managing Nick and asked me if I wanted to join the band and also my friend, Loren. Justin was just filling in for us and we had a few other guitarists but in December of 2008, Justin officially joined the band. Then Loren, our original drummer, quit and we invited Andrew to come play with us.

- Tell me about touring. What’s a typical day like?

During a typical day on tour, we wake up in a hotel room, usually pretty early depending on if we have to drive or not, we get ready, grab some lunch, head to the venue, hang out with the other bands, do a sound check, if we have one, and then it’s a lot of hanging out and sitting around, and then we play, and then after that we usually hang out at the merch table and with friends, and then when the show is done and we’re done signing and hanging out with kids we either take off to drive for the night, or stay in a hotel.

- Tonight [April 6th] is the first night of the Motion City Soundtrack tour. Have you toured with any of the bands [Motion City Soundtrack, Fun, and Sing It Loud] before?

Not really. We toured with Sing It Loud before on Warped Tour. We did Warped Tour last summer for three weeks and they were on the whole tour, but for the most part everybody is fresh faces. Andrew and Justin have a few friends on tour in Motion City and Fun, though.

- What’s the first night of tour like, since you said you don’t really know anybody on the tour?

It’s kind of stressful, to be honest. It’s hard trying to move our stuff in and get set up inside is kind of hard because you have four bands and four crews and they have to meet everybody and it’s kind of difficult to remember names. The first week is basically playing name games. Usually it takes me three or four times to figure out someone’s name. But it’s exciting. It’s always good to get the first day over. Just going through your set and getting the anxiety out of the way is probably the best part.

- What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you, or the band, while touring?

Once we ran out of gas in the middle of the desert at night, and we’d try to see who could run the farthest in the dark in the desert, which was kind of scary. The same night we also crashed a wedding which was awesome. It’s one of those things that happens once in a lifetime that you’ll remember forever.

- How would you describe your sound on “On Your Side”? Is it different from the “Greetings From…” EP?

Yeah, I’d say so. I think “On Your Side” is more pop-orientated and is a more diverse record. There are some songs that are straight forward pop songs that you would hear on the radio with, like, Miley Cyrus and there are some songs that are little softer or have a country twang to them. It has all different kinds of music on it.

- What made you decide to become a musician?

When i was in 7th grade, I was hanging out with some friends and they said they were starting a band, and I was like “Oh, well I don’t play anything,” and their dad had a bass, and I was like, “Oh, well, I’ll try that out,” but, I didn’t know how to play so I just messed around for a day or two. This was right before Christmas, and I really wanted to play bass. So Christmas day comes around and I was so stoked and there was this big box underneath the tree. I obviously didn’t know what it was, so I start to unwrap it and it turns out my Mom accidentally bought me a guitar instead of a bass and I was like, “Oh, it’s not what I wanted, haha, but thanks!” So I ended up returning that and buying a bass. Growing up always with my Dad listening to music, my friends and whatnot, and me loving music only seemed fitting for me to start playing.

- What was your high school experience like?

It was okay, I guess, haha. I have this super tight-knit group of friends and it was always a group of 12 kids hanging out everyday. We never really tried to go out and party or meet girls. We were losers, haha. We had a band and kids hung out with us or whatever. I wasn’t really too outgoing. I was super small, too, and kind of awkward and I was really uncomfortable with everything, so high school was an awkward experience, for sure.

- Do you have any advice for high school students wanting to make it in the music industry?

Yeah, just work really hard. If you write good songs and are passionate about it and believe that you have something that’s worth putting time and effort into. Today you can get recognized solely off the internet. You have MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and more outlets where people can hear you. And if you just push it, it’s only natural people will catch on.♫

That was a mean tease, Seventeen. Where's the scandal? The drama? The dirty, sexy details about which young witches and wizards were sneaking away from Hogwarts to touch each other's wands, if you get our meaning and WE THINK YOU DO?!

Well, anyway. Much as we'd love to hear all the sordid stories about young stars in Potterlove, we know better than to expect them from Emma. She's never been one to play coy with the press—or, per her own admission, with anyone else.

"I’m a terrible game player," she said. "I’m so impatient—it’s one of my worst traits! If I want to see someone, I want to see them, and if I don’t, then I don’t. My friends are always telling me I have to play hard to get because I’ll pretty much say to a guy, 'I like you—let’s go hang out.' But my friends are like, 'You can’t do that! You have to string this guy along.' And I’m just like, 'No! I won’t! I just want to go on the date!' It’s a nightmare—I definitely haven’t figured it out yet.”

Oh, Emma. Please don't figure that out! We love your cluelessness! And hopefully, this means that whenever our favorite Muggleborn does find herself in a serious relationship, we'll get to hear about it in the same adorably matter-of-fact way.

Justin Bieber Won't 'Limit' Himself On Next Album

It's been a minute since Justin Bieber released new music, and it sounds like the waiting game continues for Beliebers. The singer is currently in the planning and recording stages for his next record and has not set any deadlines for himself. At the moment, Bieber said, he's still creating.

"I want to work a lot with myself," he told MTV News about any plans to expand his collaboration résumé, after working with artists like Chris Brown, Kanye West, Ludacris and Rascal Flatts. "And [I want to] write a lot myself. I will be working with a lot of other producers and stuff like that, but I'm just writing a lot, writing on tour."

So what is Bieber focusing on in this new batch of songs? "[I'm] writing about how I feel and producing. I've been producing on my laptop and on my computer," he said. "I've been really into it and, hopefully, this next album will be huge."

It may be a while until new stuff comes out, but it's not like fans don't already have plenty of Bieber music to listen to in the meantime. Only a couple of years into his career, Bieber has already managed to release the chart-topping albums My World, My World 2.0, Never Say Never — The Remixes and My Worlds Acoustic. He's also dabbled in a number of genres, like pop, hip-hop, R&B and, yes, even country. With so many interests in so many different sounds and so much to draw from, Bieber said he's not boxing himself in on his next release.

"I've done a lot on my acoustic guitar, so it's gonna have that vibe," he explained. "I'm not gonna really limit myself. I think music is music, and genre — I mean, I know there's country music, there's rock music, but my music is different. My voice is not meant for any style. I just want to make music."

Bruno Mars Fans Brave Rain For 'Today' Performance

Eminem Takes His Own Life In 'Space Bound' Video Em plays two versions of himself in eerie clip co-starring former porn star Sasha Grey.

Just when we thought Eminem had fully escaped his demons following the release of his multiplatinum 2010 album Recovery, Marshall Mathers takes his own life with a single gunshot to the head in his new "Space Bound" video, which is now available on iTunes.

The video is a gut-wrenching look into another of Eminem's tumultuous relationships, much like the one exhibited in the video for "Love the Way You Lie" — this time with deadly results.

Filmed in Los Angeles in February, the Joseph Kahn-directed clip starts with our leading man walking down a foggy road in the middle of the night. Obviously perturbed, a sullen Em marches on, hands in his pockets, until a passing car picks him up. In the driver's seat is the Detroit rapper's love interest, played by former porn star Sasha Grey. Things clearly aren't all peaches and cream.

Eminem jumps in the front passenger seat, with a pensive look on his face, while another, more cynical version of Em rides in the back. The differences between the two Shadys are apparent. The front-seat version is calm, with his eyes darting back and forth between his girlfriend and the gun that sits in the glove compartment. The other Em is riled up, hurling insults at Grey, though she is unaware of his presence.

As the couple pulls up to a pit stop, Grey exits the vehicle first with a gun in her back pocket, while Em follows her. They enter a diner, Grey first and the rapper a few steps behind. Here, the director splits the screen and the two Eminems go their separate ways, one to the counter and the other to the booth where his girlfriend sits, texting on her cell phone.

Eminem grows suspicious of the texts and checks his girl's phone after she gets up to go to the bathroom. The rapper apparently finds what he has long suspected: His woman is cheating.

Throughout the video, Eminem follows Grey like a lost puppy. It's when they check into a motel room that the drama unfolds. Closing the door behind him, Eminem begins to attack his girlfriend before realizing that she wasn't even there in the first place. Left at the end of his rope, Eminem pulls out the gun, puts it to his chin and fires a single shot through his own head. Blood splatters, and Shady falls to the floor.

Simultaneously, the alternate Eminem, who is still seated at the counter, is struck by the bullet as well, falling back off of his bar stool before the clip rewinds back to the beginning of the 4:30 video, where we once again see our leading man walking down that foggy road in the middle of the night.

Did Eminem imagine the entire ordeal? Or did his cheating girlfriend metaphorically kill the hopeless romantic, leaving only a distrustful version of himself? The image is jarring; the interpretation, however, is up to you.

Lucid Dream

Lucid dream dapat diartikan bahwa kita sedang sadar kalau kita berada di alam mimpi, lucid dream sendiri dibagi 2 macam :

1. Dream Initiated Lucid Dreaming (DILD)
adalah keadaan saat kita sadar kita sedang berada dalam mimpi SAAT sedang di tengah mimpi. Ini lebih sering terjadi, dan ini lebih ke arah kebetulan.

2. Wake Initiated Lucid Dreaming (WILD)
adalah keadaan lucid dream yang disengaja.

Sedangkan orang yang melakukan lucid dream disebut Oneironaut atau untuk mempermudah kita panggil dream bender.

Berikut adalah tekniknya :
Biasanya, kita tak sadar dan tiba-tiba saja sudah terbangun keesokan harinya. Kapan tepatnya kita tertidur? Untuk menjadi seorang Dream Bender, kita harus melatih diri dan berusaha memperhatikan kapan tepatnya kita tertidur. Saat kita berhasil sadar saat menembus membran antara bangun-tidur ini (dikenal dengan istilah hypnagogic state), secara teori kita akan bisa sadar saat tiba di alam mimpi.

Cara ini disebut Wake initiation of lucid dream (WIoLD). Teknik Step by stepnya adalah seperti ini :

1. Konsentrasi dan Relaks.
Tutup mata dan konsentrasikan pikiran ke relaksasi sekujur tubuh dari ujung rambut sampai ujung kaki. Kontrol pernafasan dan lambatkan.

2. Buka mata pikiran.
Maksudnya, coba buat bayangan visual sementara mata kita tertutup.

3. Jaga pikiran agar tetap sadar.
Inti dari WIoLD adalah membuat tubuh relaks tetapi pikiran terjaga dalam keadaan santai. Kalau pikiran tegang, tubuh tidak akan mau tidur.Cara ini dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara, misalnya berhitung, membayangkan diri sedang naik turun tangga, dan lain sebagainya. Fase 2 dan 3 dapat dilakukan sendiri sendiri atau bersamaan.

4. Ini adalah fase utama, perhatikan baik-baik.
Kebanyakan orang (termasuk saya) sering berhasil tiba di fase ini tapi gagal masuk ke fase selanjutnya. Padahal barrier antara dunia nyata dan dunia mimpi sudah setipis kertas.

Saat kita tiba di hypnagogic state dalam keadaan sadar, kita biasanya akan mengalami sleep paralysis (yang biasa dikenal dengan diduduki jin saat tidur), mendengar suara-suara keras, sulit bernafas, sensasi jatuh atau berputar-putar, dan perasaan melayang ke dimensi lain. Kebanyakan orang akan panik dan terbangun. JANGAN! Tenangkan diri. Tenang saja, belum ada orang mati karena masuk ke alam mimpi. Pertama mungkin akan panik dan terbangun, tapi kalau cukup sering tiba di fase 4 ini, mudah-mudahan rasa panik itu akan hilang.

5. Ini adalah fase setelah kita berhasil tiba di alam mimpi.
Kita akan mengalami sensasi seperti berada di ruangan atau terowongan yang gelap gulita. Kadang orang sudah sampai sini, panik, dan terbangun. SAYANG SEKALI!!!

Saat kita tiba di sini, dengan berkonsenterasi cukup keras, kita dapat memilih dan menjelajahi mimpi kita sendiri. Dan kita secara resmi berhasil menjadi seorang Oneironaut/Dream Bender.

Tentu saja, ini lebih mudah dikatakan daripada dilakukan. Oleh karena itu, saya meneliti cara-cara yang bisa dilakukan untuk mempermudahnya. Cara-cara tersebut adalah :

1. Dream Journal
Ini adalah teknik paling dasar dan harus dilakukan terus menerus. Sediakan pensil dan kertas di sebelah kasur kita, dan setiap kita bangun tidur, langsung catat apapun yang teringat dari mimpi kita. Banyak orang sulit mengingat mimpi, cara ini akan membiasakan otak untuk mengingat mimpi. Dream Journal juga akan membantu memperjelas Lucid Dream.

2. Makan Pisang
Serius. Pisang mengandung banyak Tryptophan dan Vitamin B6 per gramnya. Tryptophan, akan diubah menjadi Serotonin di otak, dibantu oleh Vitamin B6. Serotonin adalah zat kimia yang mengatur mood, ingatan jangka pendek, dan MIMPI di dalam otak. Beberapa bahan makanan lain mengandung Serotonin cukup banyak, misalnya tomat dan kacang. Tapi serotonin sulit diserap oleh otak, karena terhalang oleh blood-brain barrier yang melingkupi otak. Coba makan banyak pisang tiap hari, terutama setelah makan malam.

3. Vitamin B6 dan Kaffein
Vitamin B6 memang bisa merangsang mimpi kita menjadi lebih berwarna dan terasa nyata,seperti makan pisang.Vitamin B6 bisa dicari di Apotek,dan harga nya tidak terlalu mahal .Belum terlalu terbukti memang kaffein bisa merangsang Lucid Dream,tapi ada FR dari beberapa agan yg bilang kalau ini bisa berhasil.

4. Wake-Back-to-Bed (WBTB)
Ini adalah teknik untuk berusaha langsung masuk ke fase REM (Rapid Eye Movement), yaitu fase tidur saat terjadinya mimpi. Tidurlah dalam keadaan lelah, kemudian bangun 4-5 jam kemudian. Dalam keadaan mengantuk, konsenterasilah pada teknik WIoLD.

5. Lucid Timer
Ini juga cara yg sudah pernah terbuktikan sm beberapa agan di sini kalau Lucid Timer memang efektif apalagi jika digabung kan sm teknik lain menjadi,WILD + Timer atau WILD + WBTB + Timer.

Untuk orang yang kesulitan sadar sampai hypnagogic state, bisa juga menggunakan cara ini: pasang jam weker/minta orang bangunkan 1/2 jam-1 jam setelah kita mulai berusaha tidur. Biasanya kita mulai kehilangan kesadaran pada waktu itu. Tapi jangan bangun! tetap dalam kondisi setengah tidur, coba lagi teknik WIoLD dan berusaha sadar menembus hypnagogic state sekali lagi.

Black Eyed Peas massive show canceled

Sixty-thousand fans are still reeling after last night’s concert to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation anti-poverty concert was canceled at the last minute due to thunder and rain. The show was scheduled to take place on Central Park’s Great Lawn and feature the Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, LL Cool J, Debbie Harry, Natasha Bedingfield and more.

In a statement the Robin Hood Foundation wrote, “The heat wasn’t going to stop them, the rain wasn’t going to stop them, but the lightning — it stopped them. It came down to safety for everyone. Organizers are hoping to reschedule, so ticket buyers should hold onto their tickets. Robinhood.org will have information in the next week or so.”

Many of the artists took to twitter last night to vent their own frustrations with Swift tweeting, “I was like ‘I get to sing with Fergie in NYC?!’ and then there was rain and lightning and they’re like ‘it’s canceled’ and I was like [sad emoticon].” Similarly the Black Eyed Peas, who performed an abbreviated set backstage for fans, were also upset with will.i.am writing, “I’m so sad the show got postponed.”

David and Victoria Beckham’s sons – Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz – got a special, musical delivery from The Biebs.

“Thank u @justinbieber for the boys signed guitars!!!” their mum Victoria tweeted this afternoon. “They are so happy!!!!!!!”

Yes, Bieber sent each of the Beckham boys an autographed acoustic guitar, including the note “never say never” on Romeo’s.

A Rocket To The Moon

A Rocket to the Moon (biasa disingkat ARTTM) adalah sebuah band rock
Amerika yang dibentuk pada tahun 2006. Band ini awalnya hanya terdiri dari
satu anggota asli ,Nick Santino. Sampai Akhirnya Eric Halvorsen (bass gitar),
Justin Richards (gitar), dan Andrew Cook (drum) bergabung.

Nick Santino memulai A Rocket to the Moon pada musim panas tahun
2006 pertamanya hanya sebagai sebuah eksperimen musik, sampai umpan
balik yang positif mendorongnya untuk melanjutkan proyek. Dia sebelumnya
pernah membuat band lokal The Bad Year and The Midway Class.

Santino mengumpulkan sekelompok musisi pada awal tahun 2008 dengan
bantuan dari The Maine sebelum penampilan besat pertama A Rocket to the
Moon, di The Bamboozle .A Rocket to the Moon mempunyai tugas pendek
yang mendukung The Morning Light di akhir dari musim semi tahun 2008.
Mereka kemudian muncul pada 10 Juli 2008 di Total Request Live dan
mempertunjukan lagu "Dakota". Pada tanggal 16 Juli 2008, di acara perilisan
CD The Maine di Knitting Factory di Los Angeles, California, Lalu Pete Wentz
Fall Out Boy mengumumkan bahwa ia telah menandatangani kontrak ARTTM

Pada 14 Oktober 2008, band ini merilis EP mereka "Greetings From", yang
menampilkan single "Dakota" dan "If Only They Knew" . Rekaman ini
mendapatkan # 21 di Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. Lalu A Rocket to the
Moon tidak lagi di Decaydance Records, Mereka pindah ke 8123 Management.

Lalu pada tanggal 14 Mei, band ini menambah Justin Richards gitaris dan bassist Eric
Halvorsen penuh waktu sebagai anggota. Mereka juga merilis sebuah video
musik untuk "If Only They Knew".

Band ini kemudian menghabiskan bagian pertama bulan Februari dan
Maret 2009 di studio rekaman dengan Matt Squire untuk debut full album
mereka. Mereka adalah Band di Alternative Press magazine's AP Tour 2009,

Justin Timberlake discusses dating Britney Spears

Remember back in 1999, when the hot celebrity couple of the moment was Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears? Well, apparently the ex-couple haven’t exactly stayed in touch. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Timberlake said he hasn’t spoken to Spears in “nine or 10 years.”

The singer explained how the two grew apart. “We were two birds of the same feather– small-town kids, doing the same thing,” Timberlake said. “But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense. I won’t speak on her, but at least for me, I was a totally different person. I just don’t think we were normal; there was nothing normal about our existence. We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers.”

Timberlake also briefly spoke about his more recent ex-girlfriend, actress Jessica Biel. “She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life,” he said. “In my 30 years, she is the most special person, O.K.? … I don’t want to say much more, because I have to protect things that are dear to me — for instance, her.” He added, “I think the mistake is that people commit to who that person is right then and not the person they’re going to become. That’s the art of staying together, is changing together. When you say it like that, it seems damn near impossible, right?”

As for whether Timberlake will be releasing a new album? Don’t get your hopes up. “I wouldn’t say I’m not going to put out another [album],” he said. “I would say that would be a bad bet, if you were betting. But I could see myself only doing one more big tour.”

Amazon Helps Lady Gaga Sell More Than One Million Copies of 'Born This Way'

Lady Gaga sold more than 1.1 million copies of her new album "Born This Way" and set a digital sales record last week -- with an assist from Amazon.com.

Billboard announced Tuesday that "Born This Way" debuted at No. 1 on its Billboard 200 album chart, becoming just the 17th album to sell a million copies in its first week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991 and the top-selling digital debut.

The dance pop provocateur is just the fifth female with a an album that sold more than a million copies in the SoundScan era.

Lady Gaga's first No. 1 album sold the most copies of any debut since March 2005 when 50 Cent's "The Massacre" sold 1.14 million. The last million-selling album was Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" in November.

Amazon's attention-grabbing download price of 99 cents last Tuesday and Thursday helped drive "Born This Way" to an unprecedented 662,000 in digital sales, pushing the album to nearly three times initial estimates by Universal Music Group. Amazon sold more than 440,000 of those copies alone, but with mixed results.

The online retailer did grab the spotlight it had hoped in its battle for a larger piece of the online market, which is dominated by Apple's iTunes. But it came with an image hit when customers overwhelmed Amazon's system.

Amazon's move has been deemed controversial by some observers who say the steep loss of several dollars an album was not worth the investment. Physical outlets also were upset at the advantage given to an online retailer.

Dramatic price cuts are nothing new for Amazon, which regularly trims new and popular album prices to as low as $2.99 through its daily deal program.

Justin Bieber to launch perfume line

Hey ladies, do you want to smell like Justin Bieber? No? Well, don’t worry, his new scent probably doesn’t smell like him anyway, but you will soon be able to score a bottle of Bieber’s upcoming women’s perfume line.

The perfume line, titled “Someday,” is a “fruity floral scent” created by Honorine Blanc of Firmenich and meant for 14- to 18-year-old girls. The scent will be released in June and comes in a clear bottle with red and pink hearts (and basically looks like it was ripped off from Marc Jacobs). See the bottle here.

Bieber told Women’s Wear Daily, “Let’s be real, the way a girl smells is very important to a guy! I have such a deep connection with my fans, so creating a fragrance that I personally love is another way I can bring them closer to my world.” He also explained that he had an active role in creating the line, saying, “They really let me take the lead on the entire project, because I know my fans better than anyone.”

You will be able to score both the perfume ($35-$55), a hair mist ($20) and a body lotion ($25) in June at numerous stores, including Macy’s, Sephora, Belk and Dillard’s. You can pair it with your “One Less Lonely Girl” nail polish.
